People First, the Call to Community

What began as individual acts has blossomed into our company-wide Answering the Call program, driving our commitment to community.

Living Our Values Through Action

Supporting the communities we live and work in through meaningful action and lasting impact.

When we say we’re People First, we mean it in various ways. Core to who we are as a company is the belief that responsible business means giving back to the communities you work in. For decades, staff members have supported causes in their own time; staff are often drawn to work with us because of this ethos.

In 2015, after seeing this passion for philanthropy and community support, we decided to formalize an organization-wide program we named Answering the Call.

Our company culture is built on a foundation of giving back, and our staff are dedicated to volunteering and working closely with the community.

Our Expertise

What we donate: Our Services

We’ve spent years sharpening our skills in all things tech, and we know those skills are valuable. That’s why we’re always delighted to get to put these skills to use for the greater good.

We’ve proudly partnered with nonprofits to provide implementations at no cost, allowing them to focus more on their community impact and less on administrative tasks. This commitment to supporting organizations dedicated to being community champions reflects our ongoing dedication to making a difference.

Custom Tech Solutions

Giving Back: Our Expertise

Not only have we donated implementation services to not-for-profit clients, but we also collaborate with key charities to develop innovative technologies that make a meaningful impact. By leveraging technology with purpose, we help organizations achieve their goals and focus on driving positive change in their communities.

Up the Down Market: The Digital Daytrader

Working on outside-the-box projects expand our own internal knowledge base, which then benefits the customers we serve. Having attended DSRF’s annual Up the Down Market event, and losing some money (to a good cause) because of physical paper tickets, our team developed an app which let attendees manage their bids digitally. It proved invaluable in 2020, when the event had to go fully digital.

CAN Reveal Gala: The Auto-Auctioneer

In 2015, right after we formalized our Answering the Call program, we sponsored Canucks Autism Network’s REVEAL Gala, their biggest annual fundraising event. The night, supported by custom live auction technology developed by The Answer Company, raised a staggering $785,000.

Fundraising + Other Donations

Giving Back:
Resources

Throughtout the year, we host fundraising or donation campaigns internally – whether it’s funds or food, our team is dedicated to building up resources for our communities. For most fundraising campaigns we run in-house, The Answer Company matches the donation – essentially doubling our impact.

For us, it’s about money being a source of workability and contribution.  It’s about money being leveraged responsibly as a resource to provide real value to our economy, communities, and planet (rather than depleting them).

Volunteer Days

Giving Back: Time

Team Volunteer Days

We’re a remote team, so chances to get together and get out into our communities, for a common goal, helps build our internal community, too. Since Answering the Call began, our teams have met quarterly in cities across Canada to donate their work hours to making a difference in our local areas.

Solo Volunteer Days

When we noticed that a lot of our staff were donating their personal free time to causes that they cared about, we decided to formalize our support for taking (paid) time off to volunteer, 4 times a year!

Staff are more motivated and passionate when they feel like they’re making a difference in a way that is meaningful to them. It’s a win-win!

Our CSR Mission

At The Answer Company, being of service is more than a guiding principle; it’s at the heart of who we are. Through *Answering the Call*, we have taken this mission to new heights. Our CSR program allows us to operate sustainably while driving social and economic benefits across the community.

We’re committed to leveraging our resources, talents, and business expertise to give back.

This is reflected in how we align our CSR activities with our corporate mission: from providing software solutions to nonprofits to supporting employee-led volunteer initiatives. Together, we’re committed to creating meaningful and lasting change.

Partnership for Progress

For over 20 years ago, The Answer Company have been working closely with The Down Syndrome Resource Foundation (DSRF) and the Canuck’s Autism Network.

These organizations, local to our Head Office in the Vancouver, BC area, were essential lifelines for our Founder’s family when their youngest child, Sam was born. Sam was born with a major heart defect and Down Syndrome. At age four, he was diagnosed with Autism, and Sam has been defying expectations since then, thanks to the services, care and support of the DSRF.

When the Canuck’s Autism Network was created in 2008, Shawn and the team saw another opportunity to partner with a great cause that aligned on core values with the company he was building. The resources, there, were invaluable for Sam.

So we know how important these causes are, and how vital it is that they reach their funding goals.

A Word from our Founder

What Shawn has to say about why we give back

“It really takes a village. We’ve been lucky to have a whole community to support raising our son. But not everyone has access to these resources. This is our opportunity to give back, simply because we can.”

Shawn Ostheimer, Founder & President of The Answer Company
